Great for any and all saxophonists, 10 Improvisational Etudes covers a wide variety of standard jazz material and is recommended for jazz as well as classical players and woodwind doublers.
Streaming MP3s and free downloads are included here so you can listen to and emulate the style, articulation, and feel of the etudes.
These etudes were originally played and transcribed on flute by saxophonist/woodwinds virtuoso Jeff Coffin (Dave Matthews Band/Bela Fleck & the Flecktones/The Mu’tet) and demonstrate his experience, expertise, and passion for music, improvisation, and music education.

Jeff Coffin put together a very unique set of improvisations based on the changes of some classic jazz standards. He presents it in a way that allows the player to hear the chords of the songs behind the improvisations. Being a great saxophone player himself, with this book he is able to increase anyones jazz vocabulary just by playing thru them! Well done Jeff!

In this new collection of études my friend Jeff Coffin blesses us with a brilliant batch of bite-sized morsels to be digested into our “system” of improvisation. Fact is, every complex thing is an aggregate (and most times faster) version of lots of simpler, slower things. Much like vocabulary, Jeff helps prepare us for better, more meaningful, cogent, deeper musical conversations by giving us a more facile way of breaking things down.

Jeff Coffin is a masterful musician who has compiled a set of jazz etudes that are comfortably playable and steeped in the jazz language. They will be enlightening for the beginner/intermediate student as well as fun to play for the more advanced students.

Jeff is one of the most influential voices on the saxophone today. These improvisations give saxophonists a fantastic feel for his signature melodic approach to soloing that develops both technique and vocabulary in a clear and effective format!

Jeff Coffin's 10 Improvisational Etudes is a fantastic look at how to make changes and phrase like the saxophone master. The etudes are fun to play through and recommended for any students looking to further their studies of jazz improvisation.

Whether you're a novice improviser or a seasoned professional, these etudes offer something for everybody. Not only do you get a peek into the harmonic, melodic, and stylistic language of one of our modern masters of the saxophone, but they are also a blast to play! Jeff's book should be in every saxophonist's library.
