As Light Through Leaves (arr. Bob Washut)

Transparent textures highlight this treatment of Jeff Coffin’s lyrical, jazz waltz. Influenced by the South African pianist, Abdullah Ibrahim, this arrangement was commissioned by Jeff Coffin for the 2011 Massachusetts All-State Jazz Band. Bob Washut’s arrangement provides an open solo vamp section that will accommodate any soloist in the band. Optional flute and vibraphone parts, Tenor 1 doubles on Clarinet. 8 Brass (with 10 optional) Flugelhorns substitute for trumpets. A beautiful piece of music and a wonderful arrangement. (Level IV)

As Light Through Leaves can be heard on Jeff’s CD “Jeff Coffin with Caleb Chapman’s Crescent Super Band ‘The Inside of the Outside’ (2016/Ear Up Records)
